The Leighton Project is a community based further education facility designed for 16-25 year olds with mild to moderate learning difficulties. The aim of project is to support learners in developing their skills, confidence and potential to live more independent lives. Students would traditionally have great difficulty accessing any of these opportunities without the specialist support offered by The Leighton Project's small and nurturing environment.
The programme offers a two year educational programme that leads ot the achievement of the nationally recognised pre-entry level Mencap Essential Skills Award.
The rich and diverse timetable includes art, personal fitness and health at the local gym, accessing community and leisure facilities around London, a regular session on sexual health and relationships, IT cookery and drama. Numeracy and literacy are embedded within the curriculum.
During the course, all students are given the opportunity to undertake work experience and are offered at least one placement of their choice.
