We deliver innovative frontline support services to help families and young people in the local community not just to survive but also to release their potential and to thrive. Our current services include our Family Support Service Camden Futures and our Leighton College for young adults with a learning disability. The 2015 Virgin Money London Marathon

Someone recently asked me (with a look of incredulity on his face!) why I wanted to run a marathon and I didn’t have an immediate answer.  When I thought about it though, the reason came very easily to me – it’s not about a marathon for me, it’s about the marathon- the London Marathon.  I love living in this big city because it’s impossible to get bored in it and that’s partly because geographically, there’s always new bits to explore.  So running the marathon here gives me an amazing opportunity to see so many different bits of the city in which I live, all on one day.

Added to this, my dad did the very first London Marathon, as well as subsequent ones, and my brother also ran it a few years back, and I feel a competitive urge to prove I can do it too.  Despite all of this, the reality is that I would not be doing it this year (and there’s a good chance it might have just remained for ever on my bucket list!) had it not been for the fact I was given a huge push by being asked to run to raise money for Elfrida Rathbone Camden, the charity I started working for 10 years ago.

Elfrida is a small, local charity based in the London Borough of Camden which runs various projects supporting those most at risk of experiencing difficulty achieving their potential within our communities; young people with disabilities, children with special educational needs, and families living in very difficult circumstances.  I work with incredible colleagues at Elfrida, and am regularly humbled by the resilience, humour and spirit of many of our service users, and I am immensely proud to be raising money for such a fantastic organisation.

So if you can spare a bit of cash to sponsor me, your money will go directly towards sustaining Elfrida’s projects and the huge amount of good work they do, and give me the encouragement I need to be able to say that I did it!

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity’s behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.

Support Elfrida Rathbone and help Ceri raise £2,000.00 for a great cause!

The 2014 Virgin Money London Marathon in Review

13 April 2014

WELL DONE EVERYONE!

Massive thanks to all the people who have sponsored me – on behalf of ERC, our service users and our staff I’m so appreciative. And I wanted to let everyone know that I made it all the way round in 4 hours 57 minutes (running no walking). That’s personally pleasing but the point of doing the Marathon was to raise funds for ERC’s services and to help more people get to know us as a charity. It was really hard in that unexpected heat but what made all the difference was knowing that our supporters care about how ERC tries to help children, young people and families to achieve their potential.

We have now raised well over £4000 with some more definitely to come – please do let anyone who still wants to sponsor us know that they still can via this website. The London Marathon campaign has been really memorable for ERC and we should all feel proud for what has been achieved for the people who use our services.

Thank you again and best wishes,

Alexis
